One of my favorite kitchen appliances is my six quart Nesco oval roaster oven. This is a very versatile device that eliminates the need to fire up a full gas oven. The appliance consists of a well fitting lid, a main body containing the heating element, a removable cooking well and metal heat rack.
Once you have a general idea of your menu, make a list of these foods and their cooking times. This will help you decide when to start cooking and who will bring which food item. Then place your list, menu plan and countdown schedule in a notebook to refer back to as needed.
Preparing the turkey often begins with washing it properly and then patting it dry. That done, place seasonings into the cavity of the turkey. These usually include salt, pepper, garlic powder, basil, and onion. There are the basic ingredients, but some people may add other “secret ingredients” they know about. Once done, the next step is to put the turkey into the roaster, making sure to select the right temperature setting according to the instructions that came with the roaster.
Use it in RV’s, take camping, to friends, gatherings, or other social events, or just use at home. Some have locking lids, carry handles and travel bags to prevent spills while traveling. It can be used for large groups, small groups, for a family of two or just for one. If you have a soap making business, its size and portability is very convenient.
The Nesco 4816-25PRG roaster is packaged with a removable steel rack. This helps you bake or roast foods without having them sit in the collected grease. You’re also provided with a recipe book when you purchase the unit. It is backed by a one year limited warranty.
My Hamilton best roaster oven is very easy to clean, just pull out the liner, and wash, if something is a bit stuck a little elbow grease, or a scrubbing pad, and she is clean as a whistle. The outside is an off white, and so is the cover, which is real easy to wipe clean.
Heat the tortillas one at a time in the hot skillet. When hot and pliable, and therefore easily bendable, take out of the pan, put a good heaping tablespoon of turkey mixture on the tortilla, and roll it tightly. Secure with a toothpick. (Did you think we bought the toothpicks just for fun?) Sometimes tortillas aren’t as bendable as we might wish. This is too bad. Heat them longer.
My favorite way to cook a turkey is in the deep fryer. (A guilty pleasure, but I don’t do it often.) How about you? Which do you think is the best way to cook a turkey: oven, deep fryer, or turkey roaster?
