If you have never been to a winter carnival, you are missing out on a great experience. Coming in February, it is a way to say goodby to winter and maybe a little hello to spring. Usually there is a lot of snow on the ground, but do not worry if there is not. There will still be plenty going on. It is a great way for the children to burn off all that pent up energy they have from being house bound for months on end.
The three lines from which they descend are: McMillan, Fairbanks and Wright; each with specific distinctiveness. Whatever their genealogy, they are remarkable dogs! Indians, hunters and settlers recognized the value of their untiring and courageous nature. Used to flush wild boar from the woods, they instinctively would incite the animal. The squeals of their target would attract other wild pigs in the area. The dogs would then draw not one, but several to chase them to trap the owners prepared. The wild pigs would follow the lead dog into the pen, at which point the dog would smoothly scale it to safety. The remaining dogs would shield the pen entrance as the owner closed the gate, leaving the wild pigs trapped. As dangerous as it was, it was all in a day’s work for a Catahoula!
Northstar at Tahoe is a feature rich snowboarding village on the north side of Lake Tahoe. Throughout the mountain, snowboarders can find their fun. Whether a beginner or an expert, the various runs are thoughtfully laid out to maximize the fun and minimize the carnage. Northstar is also the only park in the Lake Tahoe area to feature The Stash – a Burton Snowboards sponsored park that showcases wood features from rainbow rails made from tree trunks, to totem poles, to a wood cabin that has a roof that can be ridden. These features and a rich nightlife helped Northstar earn a top ten placement in all three major categories (park, pipe, and resort).

When preparing to fish, your pole should be rigged and ready to fish before a hole is drilled. It is common that the first drop into an ice hole is the best chance for a bite, be ready to fish as soon as the hole is done. The light entering from the hole makes fish suspicious and often anglers only get one chance at them. If there has been no action in fifteen minutes move on to a new area and drill another hole. Have patience and remember that most fish bite at dawn and at dusk.
